Pocket Ledger

A small web app for freelancers to track invoices and get paid on time. Built in evenings, used by 2,300 people.

Role

Designer and developer

Duration

Ongoing

Team

Just me

Outcome

2,300 users, 71% of invoices paid before the due date

I kept missing invoice due dates, so I built a tool to stop doing that. Pocket Ledger does three things: records an invoice, reminds you and your client, and shows how much is outstanding.

Design

The first version had a dashboard, charts and settings. The second version has a list. Everything that mattered turned out to be "what is due this week and who has not paid".

Before and after

The comparison below shows the original dashboard against the current list view. The redesign cut the number of elements on the home screen from 34 to 9.

Built with

Framer for the marketing site, React and Supabase for the app, Stripe for payments. The code components in this very portfolio came out of the same evenings.

What I learned

Shipping something small to real people taught me more about priorities than any workshop. Users do not want features; they want their Thursday back.
